Solitude: Stones and Hills (photo 101 Day 5)

We took a wee hike today.  On the way we passed one of Aberdeenshire’s many archeological mysteries, the Whitehill Stone circle. There are dozens of these things scattered across the countryside (in fact we saw another standing stone on the otherside of the mountain but could not get close enough to get a good picture.) These were left by the peoples of this land during the Bronze Age (2000 BC). These 2 stones form the headstones of the circle with smaller stones having fallen over but they are still there on the ground.  These stones always look so lonely having stood by themselves for thousands of years since they were used for burials or seasonal ceremonies.

I was thinking about the ‘rule of 3rds’ for this but horizon cut the photo in half so not so good!
